Without further ado and in no particular order, here are the 19 best places to get some delicious ice cream in Paris.
Best ice cream in Paris
Une glace à Paris
Emmanuel Ryon (Meilleur Ouvrier de France) and Olivier Ménard are behind this frozen pastry heaven.
They are both very passionate about ice cream and this shop was their dream. They have a wide selection of flavors that follow the rhythm of Mother Nature: the fruits or other ingredients they use must be in season.
You can either enjoy them on the spot in a cone or a pot, or you could bring a tub back home with you to enjoy later.
They have some very traditional flavors like chocolate and vanilla. However, they use some very luxurious ingredients even for the more simple flavors. They also have some flavor combinations like cranberry and goji berries or banana caramel and litchi. You’ll have a hard time to refrain yourself from trying them all!
They also offer ice cream cakes. You can order them for any special events you have coming up!
They have 2 shops in Paris:
- Shop 1: 15 rue saint Croix de la Bretonnerie 75004 Paris – metro station “Hôtel de Ville” on line 1
- Shop 2: 16 place des Abbesses 75018 Paris – metro station “Abesses” on line 12
Berthillon
Berthillon ice cream is well known in Paris. It has been a reference point for years for how good ice cream should be. Raymond Berthillon was its founder back in 1954. Since then it has remained a family business located in the heart of Paris, on the Île Saint-Louis.
This is not the place where you will get unusual flavors of ice cream. You’ll find some very good traditional flavors of ice cream. They have 5 different chocolate ice creams on their menu.
They have also opened a tea room just beside their ice cream parlor.
Berthillon focuses on the quality of the raw ingredients and they have banned any additives, preservatives, or sweeteners from their products.
Their shop is located at 31 rue Saint Louis en l’Ile, 75004 Paris – metro station “Pont Marie” on line 7.
La Glacerie
David Wesmaël is the creator behind la Glacerie Paris. His ambition is for you to get the original flavor of the fruit or nut in ice cream form. He is also a Meilleur Ouvrier de France.
He spends a lot of time sourcing the most natural ingredients, the fresh fruit, the richest milk, and the perfect eggs.
David has reworked the way in which we enjoy ice cream. No ice cream cones or pots here. He made ice cream tubes. Thus eliminating the struggle of forming the perfect scoop of ice cream. You just have to slice the portion of ice you would like to enjoy.
You’ll find some very traditional ice cream flavors and more exotic ones like a banana sorbet or green tea ice cream (one of my favorites!).
La Glacerie also offers some ice cream cakes in the form of…an ice cream scoop! It sits on top of a wonderfully crispy meringue.
If you want to enjoy your ice cream in a different way, you should check it out.
The shop is located at 13 Rue du Temple, 75004 Paris – metro station “Hôtel de Ville” on line 1.
À la Mère de Famille
À la Mère de Famille creates artisanal ice creams. Their flavors are very simple and there are not too many, but their taste is excellent. This is most likely linked to their very vigilant sourcing of ingredients.
You can only buy 500ml tubs of ice cream from any one of their Paris shops.
Besides ice cream, they also sell chocolates and pastries. My favorite is their passion fruit tart, a true delight.
This family business has been around since the very beginning of the 19th century.
The original shop is located at 35, rue du Faubourg Montmartre 75009 Paris – near “Grands Boulevards” station on line 8. Since then, they have expanded their business to 11 stores just in Paris!
You can find them all on their website.
La Tropicale
La Tropical has all its intention set on going back to the basics of ice cream. No fancy container of ice cream format. It’s all about the texture, taste, and flavors that stay in your mouth after you’ve eaten the ice cream.
If you have been reading this post so far thinking “Great but I don’t eat regular milk”, la Tropicale has got you covered. They have vegan ice creams. The nice thing is that they have different flavors than just your regular vanilla ice cream. You’ll find things like pineapple and Thai basil, peach and Sencha tea, or coconut and sesame.
They have a team room, where you’ll be able to enjoy their wonderful creations with friends. Your taste buds will thank you later.
If you’re looking to get even more involved with your ice cream, they also have classes. There you can make mochis or your own ice cream flavors!
They have 2 shops in Paris:
- Shop 1: 7 rue de Prague, 75012 Paris – metro station “Ledru-Rollin” on line 8
- Shop 2: 180 Boulevard Vincent Auriol, 75013 Paris – metro station “Place d’Italie” on lines 6, 7 and 5
Gelati d’Alberto
This is another ice cream parlor that works without any conservatives and chemicals. They prepare their ice cream daily in the back of their shop. You’ll find all the classic flavors and others. One of their original ones is Paris-Brest, traditionally it is a crunchy choux pastry filled with a praline mousseline cream, sprinkled with flaked almonds.
This shop is in a great location: near some big universities and also in a tourist area, that is the Latin quarter. It will surely be on your way.
If you a fan of ice cream in cones, you’ll be rewarded! At Gelati d’Alberto they form each flavor into a rose petal. It looks very beautiful, you almost don’t want to eat it.
Their shop is at 45 rue Mouffetard Paris 5th – metro station “Place Monge” on line 7.
Pierre Hermé
Do I even need to introduce this man anymore? He’s a very famous French pastry, chocolate, and all-around dessert chef. He is quite famous for his macaron which is very delicious.
In fact, you can find some of the flavor associations of his macarons in his ice creams, like the rose litchi and raspberry combination. They come in small or big pots.
He has many shops in Paris, so I’m sure you’ll find one on your way (like the one on the Champs-Elysées!).
Pascal le glacier
If you’re ever in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, visiting some museums (wink wink), you go swing by Pascal le glacier. It does not look like an ice cream shop from the outside, but you’ll be happy as soon as you’ll step foot in this ice cream heaven.
All of Pascal’s efforts are put into finding great ingredients. The flavors of ice creams are more on the traditional side. Depending on the season you could have rhubarb or yuzu in the mix.
So don’t be afraid to push the door of this ice cream parlor if you’re ever in the neighborhood!
Pascal le glacier’s shop is at 17 rue Bois le Vent, 75016 Paris – metro station “La Muette” on line 9.
La Fabrique Givrée
La Fabrique Givrée is the baby of two friends from the Ardèche region, Jérémie and Martin. The first one is a baker, chocolate maker, and cook, and Martin…is his friend!
Like many of the above-mentioned ice cream shops, there are no chemicals, additives, preservatives, or all that nasty stuff in the product. It’s a very natural ice cream with very fresh and natural ingredients.
The ice cream comes in different formats. you have the traditional scoop, but you also have ice cream bars and ice cream desserts that you can order from their online shop or taste in their physical store.
In terms of unusual flavors you have: date and orange blossom, müeli (never seen that flavor anywhere else!), or carrot juice.
Their shop is at 26 Rue Soufflot, 75005 Paris – RER B station “Luxembourg”.
Il gelato del marchese
This special place is the dream of one Italian man, that came to Paris for his studies. He later became an entrepreneur, met a very talented ice cream maker, and opened this shop in 2014.
The decor is very delicate and very refined. The ice cream is like the perfect jewelry at its center. There is no room for chance, every detail matters. Like the fact that the ice cream cones are made freshly in the shop for a perfect experience.
All the ice cream is artisanal, with no additives, preservatives, or chemical stuff. The ingredients are the stars.
They offer wonderful pistachio ice cream or dark chocolate ice cream. The flavors that stand out are the parmesan and gorgonzola ice cream! Never seen that anywhere else.
Their shop is at 2 Rue de Condé, Carr de l’Odéon, 75006 Paris – metro station “Mabillon” on line 10.
Pozzetto
This is one of the first ice cream shops I tried when I move to Paris as a student. I always the ice cream very delicious…but a bit expensive.
They do not have that many flavors on offer, but all the ones they have are very very good.
Pozzetto is a typical Italian ice maker, focused on great quality ingredients and no weird chemicals. You can enjoy the ice in a cone or a pot. If you stay for coffee and ice cream, they’ll serve it to you in a metal cup – the Italian way!
Their shop is at 39 Rue du Roi de Sicile, 75004 Paris – metro station “Saint Paul” on line 1.
Glace Bachir
Glace Bachir is a 100% Lebanese ice cream shop. Their specialty is their achta ice cream done the Lebanese way. this means that the ice cream has a softer texture that is pressed in a bucket of crushed pistachio. A must try, but be prepared, serving sizes are generous!
They have many other middle eastern flavors: apricot, orange blossom, rose, or almond.
Their ice cream expertise goes all the way back to 1936 when both Bachir brother opened their ice cream shop in Libanon.
They have 2 shops in Paris:
- Shop 1: 58 Rue Rambuteau, 75003 Paris – metro station “Rambuteau” on line 11
- Shop 2: 7 Rue Tardieu, 75018 Paris – metro station “Abbesses” on line 12 or “Anvers” on line 2
Sucre glace
This is a recent discovery of mine, very close to another discovery: the Chinese restaurant Gros Bao.
This is an independent artisanal ice cream shop with some great flavors just in front of Canal Saint Martin. The ideal spot to hang out during the summer months.
Their take on ice cream is fruits, fruits, and more fruits. They have more fruits in their recipe and less sugar. This translates into 4 ice cream flavors and 13 sorbet flavors!
The sorbets are the ones that caught my eye because they have my favorite ice cream flavor of all time: kiwi! There are not many shops that have this flavor. Besides kiwi, there is rhubarb, apricot infused with fresh rosemary, and white peach which are great.
A must-try if you’re in the area!
Their shop is at 61 quai de Valmy, Paris 10 – metro station “Jacques Bonsergent” on line 5.
Pastelli
This is a very cute little ice cream shop in the heart of Paris. Mary is the founder of this little piece of Italy. She does ice cream the old-fashioned way, as they did it before her in Italy.
Nothing nasty here, no preservatives, chemicals, or other weird stuff here. Only in-season fruits and first-quality ingredients. No big carbon footprint on the production process either, because all her ice creams are prepared just above the shop.
It’s the perfect spot for a coffee, an Italian biscuit, and ice cream! There is one flavor that stands out: it’s avocado ice cream. Will you dare to try it?
Her shop is at 60 Rue du Temple, 75003 Paris – metro station “Rambuteau” on line 11
La glace Alain Ducasse
Alain Ducasse is a very famous French chef. He recently opened quite a few chocolate shops, but he is also making ice cream.
There are not many flavors, but every ingredient is intentional. You can enjoy seasonal ice cream with less sugar. Some of the more exotic flavors are olive oil ice cream, triple vanilla ice cream, or a fresh herb sorbet. It’s like green juice in sorbet format.
Alain Ducasse has around 25 shops in Paris, so you’re most likely to bump into one during your visit.
This post has been all the best ice cream in Paris!
